Adaptive Avoidance

Adaptive avoidance is most often associated with realistic or helpful fears. Adaptive avoidance refers to youth avoiding situations that place them at high risk for physical or psychological harm (e.g., not wanting to go to the neighborhood park because of fear of gang activities or avoiding a certain person at school who verbally harassed them due to their gender identity).
